6 Family-Favorite Park Activities | Mountain Matron
As we are just days from the 6th annual Kids to Parks Day we are reminded how significant parks have been in our lifetime. Whether it was our neighborhood park, or the vacation to our National Park each an ingredient for cultivating this love of the outdoors.
We are asking families across the nation to stand with us, and take the pledge at kidstoparks.org. Join us as we all visit parks on May 21 2016.
We have many favorite memories of our parks and below we share 6 of our favorite family activities while at the park.
#1. Camp Out With Family And Friends
Locate your closest city, county, state, or national park that allows camping and go see what the tourists are always raving about. Our Arizona State Parks often offer cabins by reservation.
#2. Create a Community of Kite Flyers
Flying kites has always been a fun childhood pastime. When was the last time you did it? Take flight with the kids and neighbors, in the neighborhood park, and teach each other to build and fly your own kites.
#3. Volunteer: Pick a Park, Any Park, And Contact Them For Family-Friendly Volunteer Opportunities
You’ll get an insiders look at the area and build a deeper connection knowing it will be preserved with your good deed. No time to travel? Grab your family and neighbors for a walk through your neighborhood with trash bags. Clean up the streets and parks along the way. Gaining a closer connection with your neighbors, and nature.
#4. Community Cook Out: Call the Neighbors and Grab Some Grub
Grill some burgers or pack some pasta. Visit your city park, and have everyone pack a lunch. Play hide-n-seek in the shade trees, tag in the soccer fields or walk with wildlife looking for bugs, and birds.
#5. Find a Scenic Byway: So Many of Our Nations' Parks Have a Scenic Route You Can Find By Car
Take the slow lane through your local byway and learn the history of your home.
Arizona offers ~ Red Rock Scenic Byway or Kaibab Plateau-North Rim Parkway ~
#6. Stroll the Sidewalks: Grab a Few Parents, Those Babbling Babies And Your Strollers
Find a paved path in the park offering stroller accessibility. Learn the landscape, the native plants and grow bonds with nature, other parents and your beautiful baby.
